From 11 – 13 June the World Dairy Expo & Summit took place at the Anhui International Exhibition and Conference Center in Hefei, China. Sprayfo was well-represented on the Trouw Nutrition China stand. The Chinese dairy market is developing in an interesting way.
At this moment 35 billions litres of milk are processed by the dairy industry in China.
In 2015 this number should be 50 billion, making China one of the biggest dairy producing countries in the world. Milk prices are still good € 0.30 - 0.40 /litre depending on region, scale and quality.
Support Programme
The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) developed a support programme for young stock rearing. Amongst others the use of automated feeding machines is stimulated. This programme became effective in 2010 and will last till 2015. It is a good sign that the Chinese government acknowledges the underestimated calf rearing business. At this moment heifer calves at the age of 6-8 months from New Zealand and Australia are sold for USD 3000/head. This makes rearing of own offspring a very profitable business.
Farm groups
Due to the milk related food scandals (such as melamine) the MoA stimulated the development of huge farm groups. These farms together have 500,000 DC at this moment, which is 5% of the DC population. TN China has contacts with all these farms and we run trials at some of the farms.
The biggest Chinese farm group owns 110,000 DC and 16 large scale dairy cattle farms at this moment. They want to grow to 260,000 DC and 30 large scale dairy cattle farms in 2015.
We look forward to be part of this market development.
Our Sprayfo rearing knowledge and experience will definitely match with the Chinese ambitions.
