Health problems are often the result of different factors which have a negative effect on calves’ health. This is why we refer to ‘multifactor diseases’. The rule of thumb that ‘prevention is better than cure’ applies equally to calves. Several factors can be of influence to make preventative measures comprehensive.
As a minimum, check milk production and distribution:
- clean the (weaning) bucket after every feed
- go from young to old and feed healthy calves first
- keep the pen and prostrate arrangements dry and disinfected
- disinfect individual boxes
