Sheep are able to withstand low temperatures quite well. It is most important to ensure that the pen is draught-free and the air humidity is not too high.
In addition, the temperature difference between air in the pen and air coming from outside should be as low as possible. Newborn lambs are very susceptible to draught and it should be made possible for them to druy up quickly.
For a good climate, the following guidelines apply:
- pen volume per sheep 7 - 9 m³
- height of the side wall of the pen 2.0 m
- air inlet through an opening in the side facade over the entire length of the
- air outlet through an open roof ridge
- inlet opening should be 1.5 x outlet opening (both sides 0.75 x outlet opening)
- air pipeline via valve: valve length must be at least 1.5 x the height of the air inlet
